Melt the butter in a wide skillet over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until dissolved and bubbling.

Stir in the banana liqueur and simmer 1 minute.

Add the banana pieces cut-side down and cook 2 minutes, then gently turn and cook 1–2 minutes more, until softened and coated in caramel.

Remove the skillet from the heat. Add the rum, then carefully tip the pan slightly toward the flame (gas stove) or use a long lighter to ignite the fumes — stand back, as the flame can leap.

Let the flames burn off, 20–30 seconds, gently swirling the pan, until they subside on their own. Never pour rum directly from the bottle into an open flame.

Spoon the bananas and hot caramel sauce immediately over scoops of vanilla ice cream and serve at once.
